Newspaper Recovery

After the windmill arrived in 1976, the Better Elk Horn Club diligently kept locals up to date with regular articles published in The Elk Horn - Kimballton Review. The Review is no longer in publication, and a large chunk of past issues are housed today at the Museum of Danish America's Education & Genealogy Center in Elk Horn. This collection is not currently digitized and there are no forthcoming plans to do so until the copyright owner allows it.

This project seeks to recover articles about the windmill hidden within this collection. Using our portable scanner and computers, volunteers will be given the ability to comb through and scan select pages of newspaper pages from 1975 on. It is our hope to recover all of the related clippings published in The Review, not only for the interest of modern viewers and preservation, but also to honor the legacy of volunteers and staff that powered the windmill through its earlier years.
